A spinner wheel for quick, fair picks

Someone has to go first. Someone has to present. Someone gets the last slice. The spinner wheel settles it in a way nobody can argue with: type the names or choices, press Spin, and watch the wheel slow down and land. The result is shown big enough to read across a room.

How to use it

1. Type your options in the box, one per line or separated by commas. Duplicates are removed automatically.
2. Press Spin. The wheel takes four to five seconds to stop, with a satisfying wobble at the end.
3. Read the winner. Spin again as many times as you like.
4. Optional: tick Remove winner after each spin to pick a running order or several winners without repeats.
5. Optional: press Copy share link to send this exact wheel to someone else.

Good uses

• Classrooms: pick who answers next, or which team presents first.

The wheel runs entirely in your browser. Your options never leave your device unless you share the link, and even then the options travel inside the link itself, not on our servers.

Why a wheel rather than a list

A random name in a box is over before anyone has looked up. A wheel takes four or five seconds to slow down, and those seconds are the whole point. Everyone watches the same thing at the same time, nobody suspects the person holding the laptop, and the result lands with a small moment of theatre that a plain list never manages. It is the difference between announcing a decision and everyone witnessing one.

Getting a fair result

Every option gets an equal slice and an equal chance on every spin. Previous spins have no effect on the next one, so a name coming up twice in a row is ordinary rather than evidence of anything. If you want to work through a list without repeats, tick Remove winner after each spin and each winner leaves the wheel as it is drawn.

The wheel does not work the answer out as it turns. Pressing Spin draws the winner first, and the rotation is calculated backwards from that: the wheel is told exactly how far to turn so the pointer finishes over the slice already chosen. The speed, the number of turns, and where the wheel happened to be sitting when you pressed all make no difference to the result. The spin is a reveal rather than a race. If you have ever wondered whether the person holding the laptop can nudge it, they cannot, because by the time the wheel starts moving there is nothing left to nudge.
